The NSRI has two objectives. One is to save lives on South African waters and the other to promote water and boating safety. In its 37 years of operation, the Institute's volunteer crews have carried out 11 849 rescue missions, assisted 16 909 people and saved 1 927 lives.
Indian Ocean Skippers Training - Supports the NSRI
The National Sea Rescue Institute of South Africa is dedicated to assisting people in distress both at sea and on inland waters The NSRI has 28 coastal and two inland stations. The fleet of 50 rescue craft are operated by 700 well-trained volunteer crew members of the Institute. The NSRI requires R8 million per annum to operate an effective rescue service. It receives very little government funding, while the majority of its funds are generated through donations, legacies, subscriptions and fundraising efforts. The NSRI has two objectives.
